Happy Halloween 2010

Towards the end of summer each year the wheels in my head start turning about the big Hallowen party coming up. I think the first one we threw was October '2001 just after we moved into our house. Last year we skipped it, and I really missed not doing it. I like that my kids look forward to it, it helps me get their costumes together early, and it is so much fun anticipating everyone's arrival and what costumes they will be wearing. Everyone is so clever and such great sports. It really is a fun evening! So I guess this one made it the ninth one! I think I can remember them all- although I have always been so bad at taking pictures of everyone's costumes, the decorations, the dinner, the invites. Oh well. My mom says she's saved all the invitations so maybe I'll take some pics of those. I usually have the invite go with what we'll be dressed as and dinner ideas follow. It seems I already have an idea of what I'll do the year before. This year I made up a little poem on a gravestone, then you open up the "coffin" to find a skeleton inside with the party info. They turned out great!

It really is fun for me to do~ and my family is the best, so it's fun to do it for them! This year I got just a few pics, BUT  awesome Cade took lots and lots of pics and video and put together a video of the party!!! How glad am I I invited them????? Check it. It's fab.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRcZu3NMGKYHalloween fell on a Sunday, which meant the Trick-or-Treating was on Saturday. We always have the Whitmore's over~ it's tradition! Kate and Adren don't know not spending Halloween together is even an option! There was a lot of waiting around all day and then the time came to finally get in costumes. I made a couple of warm yummy soups, wings, and Eliza brought a yummy salad. It was about this time the rain started pouring- and it poured! It was a heavy, cold rain that was not letting up! What to do? Eliza and I couldn't remember a time when this was the case. One year it was snowy- and some years quite cold, but I don't recall it ever pouring rain. Well, the kids were going crazy, dying to get out there! I suggested they pile in the van, but Adren did NOT want to do that. I figured it would just get colder, so we bundled them up as best as we could, and they were off. They were pretty much drenched in icy rain by the time they got to the end of the sidewalk. The few trick-or-treater's that came by were getting fist-fulls of candy from me, because I figured the night was a bust. Soon the rain stopped and the streets were jumping! Will finally came home with Rachel who was shaking and crying she was so cold. This made me worry so I jumped in the van and tried to find the rest. I couldn't, and by the time I got back they were all home, and pretty much in the same state as Rachel had been. I had the fire going and dry T-shirts and warm socks ready. It took a little while to warm everyone up, but soon everyone was good as new. I couldn't believe how much candy they got! They always dump it out on the table just giddy! Needless to say, I had to get stingy on handing out the candy and we finally ran out! But Adren was willing to hand his out, so between that and all the gobbling, pretty much all the candy was gone that night! I should have taken a picture of the garbage can! There was probably 5 lbs of just candy wrappers and sticks in there! I was so opposite of that! I would have never handed out my candy, I took a strict inventory of what I collected, (mostly so I'd know if any was stollen by daddy or Eliza) and it was hoarded until spring. I remember finally biting into a mini snickers bar from my hidden stash months later only to find it hard as a rock. Yeah, my kids are real different from how I was.
All in all, it was a great time. Halloween always is. Even so, those decorations can't come down fast enough the day after. I guess I party it up so hard I'm definately done and ready to see it go until next year. Great times!
Here are pictures of the freezing evening. You can just feel how cold it is by looking at the kids!

The Exciting and Miscellaneous

Zeke got his learners!!! This was easy-peasy, first try. He is an excellent driver, though he says he does not feel super confident. Maybe it is because it is kid number four, but I have all the confidence in him. What a guy! We had a fun family gathering at Cash's house. Fun because ALL of the Boc's were there. They haven't all been together for years- like since before Grayson's mission. They all gathered for Matt and Abby's 30th anniversary! Sooo sweet. Look at this bunch! I love this average summer day in the Geertsen household. I am working in my bathroom. I will share my game plan directly... Jonny... P-Day phone calls with Adren are the best. He just gets whomever is around, sometimes it's just the Parentals. I took this screenshot of Cade, Ashley and Jon all on Mount Timp! Many in the family joined that day. This is the second summit on that mountain in a month for Jonny! Just a pretty screenshot from the doorbell cam.   Paisley has been asked to Prom b...

May Celebrations and Love!

Our little Paisley and all of her little friends are graduating from High School and all of us mothers cannot believe it! My dear friend and current Young Women's President, Elin, set up a beautiful evening for the girls and mothers to celebrate each one of them. It was lovely and touching and very special. These girls are the best! Despite the scaffolding that has been a staple for way too many weeks I care to count, I always appreciate our coming-to-life spring yard. Everything is filling in nicely. It is amazing how big our trees and bushes have become in hardly no time! But that scaffolding! You can't really tell, but it is quite the maze to get in the front door. The porch area may need to be removed just so that people can enter safely on the Homecoming Day.  My friend Kelly reminded our CRU when we replaced our faces onto her family portrait when she arrived home from living abroad for a time. We so funny! More windows being installed. Hooray! I snapped these as I headed...

Happy Anniversary to Jon & Lindsey!

Happy 25 Years to us! We spent the weekend at Snowbird at the lovely resort. It was all so pretty! Our room had such gorgeous views of the mountainside. I texted this pic to Adren of Pfeifferhorn, a mountain he summited with his dad once. I looked at that, marveling that my boy has been there! We took the tram up to the top of the mountain to enjoy panoramic views all around. One of the days it was nice to say, "The only thing on our schedule is a tram ride and dinner reservations". After so much hussle, it was nice to not have a whole lot to do. Chillin' with Jonny was really nice and good for us. It was a good reminder that we really enjoy each other. I mean, we knew that, but it is nice to spend a weekend together when you don't have a million other things going on. When we got back, I dived right back into our big event at work, our annual Give Hope Gala. This one was fun because Jon got to attend with me. It was a fun evening with him and my work friends. Off we ...
