Here we are, to little Eli's first day of kindergarten! I've been feeling so sentimental all morning! This really is such a big milestone in a little person's life- I still remember my first day, saying good-bye to my mom with Abby in tow. I was trying not to cry and was pretending the sun was in my eyes. What will Eli remember about this day? I was just thinking this morning how he doesn't ask for "gaga" anymore- so I made him some. Warm milk with a little vanilla. He drank it all up, wrapped in his cozy. See, he's still my little Eli bones.
There never was a kid so excited and so confident to start kindergarten! He's had to wait two full weeks after Adren started first grade and it's been almost painful. Each day when I've asked him to get dressed he responds, "Because I go to school today???" no, not yet. Yesterday just he and I went out, found a few clothing items, socks and of course a toy gun to get 100% ready. Last night we packed his new back (which was quite a list of things to pack!) and located his new shoes. This morning he was up first thing, before everyone and climbed into bed with me and we talked about today. He dressed himself- in his ratty old summer clothes, which was fine because when it was time to get him cleaned up and dressed for real, he was a mess. He looked so handsome in his new jeans, new shirt, socks and shoes. I took a bunch of pictures by the usual bush. He had a quick snack and then we had to wait for Paisley's bus to come, because it is her first day as well, and it was getting late! Luckily Jon came home and I was able to take Eli in the car. He sat up front with me and confessed he's a little worried he'll get in trouble. I reminded him that as long as he sits quiet and listens to Mrs. Sarkady, he'll be fine. She's wonderful! I feel so much better with her, for some reason. We were a little late getting in his room, but it was fine- his teacher wanted the moms to stay for a little bit so he hung up his backpack and found a spot on the rug. I love hanging back and watching him take it all in. Mrs. Sarkady read a book to us all about saying good-bye to your mom on the first day of school and had the kids give us a chocolate "kiss" before we said our good-bye's. I noticed several kids losing it and could see Eli's face wondering why in the world you'd be sad at a time like this. He gave me a tight hug and I told him I loved him. He bounced right back onto that rug, ready to go! I, of course shed some tears on the way home. I just can't wait until 3 o'clock when I can get back there and see how his first day went! I'm curious with Adren as well, as this is his first "full" day of school. My how time flies and drags all at once. It's strange to think there was a time when I had these kids at home and summers, falls, winters etc. really made no difference in our lives here at home. I know Eli will have a great time, that's just how he is. Love those little bones!
Yes, today is definitely a big day!
