The kids are old enough now that they are more excited than I am about my birthday. It's sweet. However, I can't in good conscience ditch them with a sitter for a night out on the town. I've started a new "tradition", if you will, though that makes my birthday extra special. The Saturday before I go out by myself and do some window shopping, try on some clothes, brows a bookstore, munch on a delicious salad in the car.... these are things that bring me happiness.
The day of my birthday the news was full of a "Deadly Blizzard" that would be hitting the state soon! Hide your kids! Hide your wife! You won't be able to see anything! You will be freezing cold! You will run out of food! Your car will go skidding and spinning off the road and totally out of your control!
When Jon got home from work that evening we were wondering if we were wise to press on with our plans of taking the kids out with us for a Birthday dinner. We threw caution out the window since the mall is so close- and were able to get right in at Red Robin, no waiting at all. We were pretty much the only ones in the resteraunt so we had excellent service and the kids did great.
Afterwards we were able to stroll a quiet mall, although several stores were closed with a scribbled note explaining they had fled to save their lives. We meandered upstairs where Santa was waiting for us! He started to motion us over to see him. We spent a little time talking with him, he had us all close our eyes and wish for snow as snow machines turned on and little flakes fell on us. Everyone got to sit on his lap and he was great! No lines!
I'm not sure why Paisley looks like a hobo in this picture.
Do you see the blizzard out the windows? Neither do I.
It was a lovely evening. A wish come true, actually. Big momma don't like crowds. We drove home and saw a few lone flakes but never heard what the fuss was about. Big talkers.
The next morning I took my time getting downstairs even though I could hear all kinds of ruckus. Turns out Paisley fed Zeke some Birthday cake for breakfast and took pictures to prove it.
