There has been a family of little boys that live right behind us in the "L" shaped lot since Adren was teeny tiny. I remember when they first moved in and they'd climb onto the fence and just hang over it, talking with Adren. I'd invite them to come over, and eventually they did. -And didn't leave for four years. I got to know Jimmy and Tommy so well. (aren't those just classic little friend names!) I'd call them "Himmy and Hommy"-since they are Spanish, you know. They'd scramble over that fence a dozen times in a day, hopping yards to play together, since they'd have to walk all the way around the block otherwise, and I felt they were all too little to do that. Once I watched Tommy try to go over and slip and fall pretty hard. He showed up the next day in a cast! We banned the fence climbing, which was in effect for about two days, and then they were all back to scrambling over back and forth. There have been countless hours of play, popsicles, parties, games, fights etc. over the years. So you can imagine my surprise and dismay when little Tommy came knocking one night so he could say good-bye to Adren because they were moving the next day. I just cannot imagine these little boys not around anymore! I found Adren quietly crying on the couch later, and I felt like doing the same thing! The next day I could see them gathering up the last of their things and quickly printed up a little book of pictures of them over here playing over the years. I handed to them over the fence and wished them luck. It surprised me how attached I got to them.
Here's Jimmy and his older brother Jonathan looking at the little book I gave them. (yes, I snapped it through the window) It makes me happy to see those smiles. They'll be ok.
