Yes, life goes on, doesn't it? Now that I feel like I have a little bit more time on my hands, I would like to freshen the front room. Always fussing, always changing.
I had hung a "gallery" type wall in there years before, but was feeling it needed something fresh. I liked the thought of adding some shelves to the wall.
To be honest, it was a lot of work for the same effect.
Oh well, it's what is going on in there right now.
I also painted the piano a matte black, which I like much better.
Then I painted the doors the most gorgeous green. I love the color, but I don't think it works.
Now I know!
I took the grey from the one wall all around the room~ which I don't love. Then I sold one of the green couches on KSL because it makes the room really hard to arrange with the two loveseats. I think I'll go for the two chairs route. Stay tuned...
You'll notice there is no rug. The one that has been in there I bought years ago, mainly because it was a great price for such a large piece. In my opinion, you can't get rugs big enough for a room, and this was the perfect size for the space! Well, it was a light beige and therefore showed the dirt. So high maintenance! I got tired of steam cleaning it. Besides, the results were becoming less and less satisfactory. I decided to paint it. That's right, paint the rug.
Because I knew it was a bad idea going into it, I really didn't prepare properly. I actually used the leftover grout paint from my bathroom. ( I can't believe I'm admitting that publicly.) Then I watered it down to thin it out. Because I was pouring it into a separate container to add and mix the water, each batch was inconsistent. So many bad ideas added to more bad ideas. I felt a bit reckless. Maybe deep down I was just needing an excuse to replace the rug.
As soon as the kids walked in the door from school I'd hear, "WHAT happened to the rug???" Even Jon, who notices nothing made that exact comment the second he walked in the house that night.
I told everyone to just relax, it needs to dry and will look much better in the morning.
It didn't.
I happened to have a MS truck coming that morning to pick up a pile on the front porch. As soon as I walked downstairs into the room I rolled it up and dragged that messy beast out to the pile. It was so big and heavy! Then I guiltily watched the poor truck driver lug it out and push it into the truck. Who am I? Oh, dear!
Well, just a few days later I was browsing at Saver's in Orem when to my horror, I came upon my rug! Ohhhhh, deeeeeeaaaaarrrrr!
I snapped a quick photo just for you- and slowly backed away out the door.
I found this little ottoman from DI to recover. It has turned out real cute and real handy.
Not too shabby for a $5 find, and the gold pleather I've been eyeing at Hobby Lobby looks great on it.
I did order a great rug off Amazon, and boy does it make all the difference in the room!
I have more plans for this room, but with the holidays around the corner, this is how it will be for a little bit. It's fine.
Eli has his band performance, it is always a good time to watch him play, the cutie.
I love this shot of Zeke, just relaxing on my bathroom floor on the cozy rug.
This boy is really his own self, and I love it. He wanted to try having colorful hair and chose purple. He put it on himself. It lasted about a week.
Here he is playing with matches and candles. One of his favorite things to do.
I really don't mind at all when I wake in the morning to this scene: Zeke and Paisley joining us in the night.
We went on the annual Taylor Family Fall Bike ride down Provo Canyon. It was such a gorgeous day! We stopped in at Macy's for something from the hot case and a cone. We marveled at the giant flag soaring in the breeze.
Then a fun date night to celebrate LT's birthday~ Wait Until Dark at the new Hale Theater! It was so good! It has been years since I've seen the movie, but I have watched it no less than 50 times. They had all the details in the apartment so perfect. We had to watch it with the kids later.
