I like this one. I try to think up little ways to trick my family- Jon, in-particular. But the night before I got in late and was tired. Before heading up to bed I filled four Styrofoam cups with water, stuck a fork in each one, and popped them in the freezer. Then I turned all the photos on the wall in the Family Room upside down, drizzled honey on the back door knob and dead bolt, and dumped green food dye in the tanks of all the toilets. Hee-hee.
The next morning Jon was the first to discover the green toilets. (Surprised?) I made the kids scrambled eggs and toast and when the first one asked if they could have a fork, I plopped down a block of ice surrounding a fork on each plate. They ended up sucking on the ice all through breakfast!
I also had them read a card we received in the mail from Granny and Grandpa Taylor. It was a Christmas card that read, "We are so excited for Christmas!" I said, "Isn't that thoughtful of them to send us a card?" This was followed by blank stares.
As I gave Jon a hug good-bye to work, I slapped a sticky note on his back, "Kick Me". Little Eli was so excited about all the joking around, he started to tell dad to watch out for the star on his back, so it was discovered before he got to work. But Dad DID get a hand full of sticky honey trying to get out of the house! Eli also told me to NOT put my hand on the upstairs bathroom doorknob. Then kept asking if I'd touched the door knob yet- I should really go open the bathroom door. I could see it had been smeared with soap by Jon. I also caught the "Honk, it's April Fools!" sign on the back of the van before we headed off to school in the afternoon. Nice try, Jon! Poor, poor Jon. He tries so hard. But you have to get up pretty early in the morning to fool me....
I enjoyed a precious time at Eli's class for "Mom's and Muffin's". Eli's face sheepishly grinning at me while he and the class sang "You Are My Sunshine" and a couple other songs was downright adorable I could barely stand it. He sure was giddy to have me there. So sweet.
Adren had the idea of me taking a picture upside down. Clever, isn't he?
I made sure to get a phone call in to Jon while at work to let him know our fridge was broken again! He just couldn't believe it, we just got it fixed, there better be a warranty on that service, what was that guys name again? Where's my darn phone book??? I said, "Guess what else?" He barely dared ask, as I responded, "April Fools!" Then I said, "Don't you feel great knowing that isn't true???"
That evening for dinner I set a wacky table setting with cookie sheets and pie tins for plates, measuring cups for drinks, tongs and serving forks for utensils. I recall a fun April Fools dinner like this at my Granny Woolf's house when I was little and always remembered it.
For dessert, I announced we were having Sponge Cake! Mmmmmmmm.
There was a little cake, iced with sprinkles for everyone. (except me, no one noticed) Of course, it was a cut up sponge.
They may be tired of being tricked at this point. Hee-Hee!
I was expecting lots of sadness here, and pulled out a plate of iced sugar cookies with the same sprinkles but by then everyone was happily licking their sponge squares clean. Jon made me take a bite of a cookie first before he'd have one. Don't blame him.
