I knew Adren was planning on attending Homecoming with his friend Sammy, but with it only a week or two away, he hadn't asked her. I suggested he do it soon so she could make her plans. He told me some elaborate plan to ask her, involving a chicken costume or something. I could see this would likely take a while longer for him to pull off, and suggested some simple options to ask her. He chose the one I suggested, which was actually the same way Jon asked me to my Jr. Prom.
A box of donuts asking to go, then "If your answers yes, eat the donuts and return the box, if your answer is no, return the donuts and eat the box."She answered him back the same way I had- a box full of Rees's cups.
His friend Andrew happened to be over and mentioned he wasn't planning on asking anyone. I told him the two dances boys should absolutely not sit home are Prom and Homecoming. Girls want to be asked to all the dances, but especially to those! Ask someone, anyone! He asked their friend, Rylee the same way, the same night. Adren said she squealed with delight at the door with her mom. See???
Adren and I went out shopping for a suit after I did some research on how a suit should fit. After a couple misses we ended up at the mall and found a real handsome black suit, a floral tie and avocado print socks (avocado's on the socks) because why not? We tried for shoes but couldn't find much and Adren said his church shoes were just fine. He tried on the pants in the Food Court bathrooms because we didn't want to have to come back to exchange, and no stores are allowing try-ons during this pandemic. Luckily, they fit perfectly! He was real excited about all of it. I suggested we grab a bite at the Food Court and Adren suggested a Chinese place he wanted me to try. We sat nibbling with our chopsticks and chatting about his funny friends when said friends ran up behind him to surprise him. We all talked for a bit and they went on their way. When we finished eating Adren drove us home.
I'm writing all of this because it was such a fun outing for me. Adren has become so busy and I don't get one-on-one time much anymore- especially shopping! It's the first time ever I've taken him shopping and he actually wanted to look around and circle back to look again and not act like he was being tortured. It was so fun!
Adren joined his friend Carters group and I was looking forward to hearing the plans. Before I knew it, Carters mom was calling me and taking over the planning. I was assigned to help with the dinner. Adren's head was spinning a little.
Adren looked so handsome in his suit, Andrew came to get him so they could go get their dates. I thought they looked so cute!
Adren and Sammy had made their boutonniere and corsage beforehand.
I had hosted Book Group earlier that day, but threw in the potatoes and headed up to the house in Lehi to help set up and serve dinner.
The kids finishing off the Book Group feast :)I got a kick out of the whole night. The house, the host, the kids. It was all so great. I rode up with my good friend Diana (Sammy's mom) who had decorated the table so beautifully, and us moms served courses of salad, entre of brisket & vegetables and a cheese cake dessert. Very fancy. When the kids moved to the dance floor a big Charmin Bear showed up to dance with them- apparently well known in the Tick-Tock world. They moved on to swimming and a movie. Diana and I had long-gone by then. Adren said it was a really great night :)
