There is so much prep work for this day, which is good in a way because it is a distraction of what is really happening. I made lists of things to shop for and prep for food, and things to tidy. I busied myself planting pots for the backyard and gathering chairs. I am so grateful that he will have a full week of home MTC because if I had to add packing and sending him off the next day to my list of things I don't know if I could have survived!
I had Stake Council early that morning, and with our church not until 1:30, it seemed too long! The day was so wonderful. There was so much family and friend support, it was sweet to see. Adren gave such a great talk, a few people were sneaky and recorded it and have sent it to me. It was nice to re-listen to his words.
| It will be fun to see how Solly has grown when Adren returns. |
I really had no idea the size of crowd to expect. I know the amount of family to prepare for, but when you add in possible friends and ward members popping in, I can't wrap my brain around it! I really did not want to be left with heaps of food. I just prepared the best I could and was so happy to see all the support. I was busy refilling and chatting, so the pictures in my head is what I have. The backyard was filled with so many friends and neighbors, the house filled with so much family. Love is everywhere!
Once everyone said their final good-byes and left, we were able to walk over together as a family for Adren to be set apart as a missionary. It was so special to meet with the brand new Stake President Gardner. He's been great to work with as a stake counselor over the past year. Adren is his very first missionary! He spoke with us for a little bit. After Adren was set apart I told him Adren had brought his name tag, so he should put it on and make it official! President Gardner said he'll do that with everyone going forward :) I should have also advised to not have the mother give the closing prayer, unless he's wanting to hear lots of blubbering and sniffling. He is now Elder Geertsen for the next two years.
Pedro's parents were so sweet to come support.
This is a pic of Pedro and Adren on Pedro's baptism day! Pedro is currently serving in Florida.
It felt great crawling into bed that night with one more thing accomplished. Tomorrow Adren starts home MTC! He is all excitement which makes me happy to see. I have a feeling he is going to be a great missionary!
