I'd been going each morning for the past two weeks helping groups memorize parts and giving them performance tips so it was really fun for me to watch!
Jon and I drove up separate since Jon would be working each morning. I had Adren and Eli in the van with me, we'd just grabbed dinner and were eating and gabbing. I was helping Adren with his shake and looked up just in time to slam on my breaks~ the car in front of me had stopped for a deer and I still can't believe I didn't hit him~or the deer! I had to pull off to the side of the road and gather my wits for a minute. It was a close call and could have been so bad. We were all a little shaken up, but it was a good reminder to just drive. Good grief!
Don't you love staying in a place long enough to figure out the quickest routs to the pool, the parking garage, the cafe~ as well as getting to know the staff from seeing them on a regular basis? It was that kind of week. We used two different elevators to get to the different directions where we needed to go. One was being re-tiled just outside on the ground floor. We named it the "messy elevator". It was real helpful to point the big boys in the right direction when they'd venture off on their own. "Do we take the messy elevator to get there?"
We enjoyed breakfast at a little grocery store not far from our room.
Zeke came to breakfast dressed for the pool.
This is all the kids wanted to do! And it is definitely where we spent most of our time.
I didn't mind one bit. I brought a book and sat poolside and read or joined in once and a while. I also got my YW binder very organized.
I'd watch the lady behind the counter at the pool. She had little activities on the schedule each day almost by the hour. She ran it like clockwork, and it sure kept her busy! Since it was practically just us, I felt we needed to participate as much as possible. She'd have her handmade poster up announcing painting or root beer floats, ping pong tournaments or games to check out and have everything set up so neat and tidy. At first I felt bad that she would gather up one of my kids wet towels as soon as they'd lay it down, or come out with a dry mop after they'd run by. But I think she liked bustling about all day. She'd be there right when the pool opened and I always knew when it must be 6 o'clock because she'd start pulling everything in and closing up. We couldn't exactly understand each other, but she was really the sweetest thing.![]() |
| This is what forty looks like, people! |
We were a little cramped in our room. We had a smaller size this time. The kids didn't mind getting all cozy together and watching a movie after a day of swimming. I had to lay the couch cushions down the hallway for someone to sleep each night, because that pull-out was a tight fit! We were rarely in our room, so it was fine.

We were delighted by our view! It's been such a mild winter, it was lovely to look out at the beautiful surroundings and see snow!
It was really a treat when Jon could be up there full time with us. We went to a movie, went out for ice cream, walked the charming shops and bumped into the most enormous adorable dog ever- just a real treat to all be together, with no where important to go.
As I was chatting with Mommy I said it's strange to now be in my 40's! She responded that even more strange is to have three kids in their forties! I guess she's got me there. After we got home Jonny took me out to a lovely dinner and movie. At forty years old I am healthy and happy, I feel more love than I deserve, I have a lot of progress to go but am happy with the direction I am heading in life. Life is sweet!
ps~ then as a birthday gift to myself, I freshened up my front door color. It's teal. Love it!
