This summer really was so much fun! Towards the end of the school year I really looked forward to having the kids play around at home, not worry about getting out the door at a certain time each day, and really making the backyard a fun place so the kids would want to STAY OUTSIDE! I enrolled the boys in T-Ball in the spring, and it was a lot of fun going to their games. Especially because they could be on the same team! They were SO excited to get their jerseys, equipment and play! Their coach was so great and it turned out to be a lot of fun.
The next big event was, of course, the last day of kindergarten for Adren and last days of preschool for Eli and Paisley. Adren seemed a little sad, and gave Mrs. Holyoak a big hug good-bye. Eli just seemed happy and excited for his graduation ceremony (which was long) and I was the happy one to have Paisley done for the summer. I know she was done, too. Each day when I'd say it was time to get ready for the bus she'd just say matter of factly, "No, I stay home with you"- and there was NO changing her mind. Yeah, I was ready to be done!
Zeke played happily in the rocks during Eli's ceremony. I thought this picture looked funny, like a rock was stuck to his head.
We've started a fun tradition with the family- we pick a day and ALL go to Lagoon the same day! It's a lot of fun to meet up together and spend the day. Can you imagine Lagoon? With cousin's? Try #1 was cold, wet and rainy. Really cold, wet and rainy. I've never been to Lagoon in such weather. Still, we braved it until the end of the day, which resulted in pneumonia for me. That's ok. I recovered.
The older neices are always a good time!
Each summer the Lloyd's invite us to their backyard AKA Lloyd Park for BBQ, smore's, firework show from the park over the fence (front row seats!) and an outdoor movie projected on the barn wall. Good times! Always good times!
Poor Paisely. Either the fireworks are too loud or the movies too scary. Can't be Strawberry Shortcake musicals all the time.....
Paisley was just giddy to be invited to her first birthday party! She carried this invitation everywhere. It got left at Granny's and was safely returned. The little girls name is Charlotte and she is in primary with her. Paisley put on her party dress and helped pick out and wrap the gift. It was really cute to see her run into Charlotte's house so excited!
Soon it was warm enough for swimming! I found this pool for a great deal, which was a hit! With so many neighbor kids + mine jumping into it, it finally got a hole. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. Zeke sure had fun with it.
The kids love going up to granny and grandpa's house and rolling down the lawn in the back yard.
Devron and I meet up a lot with our kids a lot throughout the summer. They love being with eachother. In fact, my kids aren't sure if Bret and Maguire are their friends or cousins. This time we went to the Living Aquarium. They've added a bunch of stuff recently, my favorite was the penguins. Zeke had his little nose pressed up against the glass just fascinated with them. They put on quiet the show for him, darting back and forth, shooting up out of the water.
Poor Paisley. The aquarium didn't have one Strawberry Shortcake display. Just scary sharks. I do feel for her, always with a group of rowdy boys.....
We bounced back to Lagoon on a warm, sunny day and had another great time with the Gouldies and Boc's.
Isn't that a great pic of Adren, Grayson and Eli on the Skyride? It stopped, like it always does, and Jon and I had bought churro's for them and were waving them at them. They were hungry and wanting us to toss them up. Yeah right. This day was so fun because we left Paisley and Zeke at the Goulding's with Sadie (so nice!) so it was great just strolling around with the boys. We were able to go on a lot of rides together. One of the most enjoyable Lagoon days ever!
The fourth of July and all the events surrounding it is always fun to look forward to. I had intentions of getting the boys up at the crack O to watch the hot air balloons launch, but they wouldn't budge, so I went back to bed. My kids don't even know what a parade is, since Jon and I have never been big parade fans. So, we do lots of fireworks outside throughout the month, we check out the fair on Center Street (which is usually HOT and crowded) I paint the kids faces with flags, fireworks, army tanks etc. Sharon's birthday is on the 4th and it's always fun to get together with the Geertsen side and BBQ, chat and let the cousins run around and play. Then we head over to Great Granny Woolf's for the Stadium fireworks.
Jon enjoys getting on his bike any chance he can get. This is a time he rode the Alpine Loop with a friend and fellow biker in the ward. I think it's cute of him!
Of course, summertime is full of friends over all day. It's nice when it's not too hot outside because then they can just play in the backyard all day- which they are pretty content on doing. I'll go out periodically and hand out popsicles or koolaid. We got a trampoline this summer, which has been a huge hit! It was sort of a spur of the moment decision and I'm glad we did it. It has had so much use! All the surrounding friends have one, so I didn't feel the need to get one, but there was a great sale one day, so we did it. The kids ended up sleeping out on it throughout the whole summer! I thought it looked so fun for them out there in their sleeping bags, popcorn, flashlights on the warm summer nights. The friends next door and over the fence would usually be sleeping out, too so they'd talk over the fences. How fun would that be??? I really think over everything that was the highlight. One night Jon forgot to turn off the sprinklers and they were woken up really early and got all wet. He'd always sleep downstairs with the windows open and we'd bolt the gates, just to make sure.
There is a great group of boys around and they always end up here, which is good. They keep the sandbox and clubhouse looking real ghetto with all the playing.
One of the last events was a free concert in the park in SLC "She and Him". You know, with Zoe Deschenel from Elf? It's a good band, and Jon really wanted to go. We went up with two other couples from the ward. It was a good time and good music. It really made me realize, though that I don't find as much enjoyment at concerts in my old age. The packed together crowds, jumping around etc. gets hot and stinky. I'd rather enjoy it in the cool comfort of my car. But none the less, it was fun and we enjoy our ward friends.
Yes, overall summer 2010 was great fun! It's fun to have our kids getting a little older and able to experience more things. We have fun together as a family and look forward to next year!
