Adren turns 12!

Each birthday is such a milestone, isn't it? Big twelve means Primary graduation into Young Mens! Mutual every Wednesday (with ME!) and all the other wonderful things that come with being a little more grown up. He seems more than ready to move on.
That big gift behind him is a guitar! I decided that's what he's doing now. And he'll love it.
I have always waited until after Adren's birthday to put up Halloween because I always wanted him to associate his birthday as his own~ un-tainted by anything else. This was the first year I put it up first, because he insisted. All the kids did, really.
Ok, back to the birthday boy.
Isn't he just the cutest at 12 years? Adren is getting more and more anxious to grow up and get more privileges~ I feel like I am constantly saying, WAIT. Just WAIT. I'm not ready for that. I don't know if his siblings would describe him this way, but he really is gentle and sweet. I feel like he doesn't really have the personality of a typical oldest child. He's much more easy going, likes to relax a LOT and rarely stresses over things. I was reading over a paper he wrote in class and when asked what he'd like to work most on he said, Be more responsible. I felt like that was my voice talking and realize I say that a lot, and you know what? He is very responsible. I feel like I have to remind him a lot, and have decided this is the year I need to pull back on that and let him face the consequences. Turns out he can handle most things and is watching the clock or a due date more than I realize. He was telling me something he likes to do in his class with Mrs. Rose is put on a "zoned out" face or fiddle with his pencil, or whisper a comment to a nearby friend because he notices when he does this he always gets called on, and he says he always knows the answer and it makes him chuckle inside. I thought that says a lot about his personality. He's like that.
For his birthday he wanted a hang out party, have some friends over after school for some food and then go see a movie at the mall on their own. That's cool.
That kid helping himself had just moved in days before and Adren wanted to invite him because he thought that would be fun to be invited to a party right when you move in :)
I thought they looked so cute all walking in together "on their own". (I walked them in to the theater and made sure they were all situated and settled.)
Brett, Adren, new kid, Bridger and Pedro. And my shadow! I'm always lurking nearby...
We celebrated with cake that evening. Adren's favorite thing in the whole wide world right now (besides Batman) is Reese's Cups.
We sure love you to pieces, Adren!
ps~ Here are some signs it's October and Halloween is on it's way:
Zeke got out the craft pants and got creative. He's so excited!

The Exciting and Miscellaneous

Zeke got his learners!!! This was easy-peasy, first try. He is an excellent driver, though he says he does not feel super confident. Maybe it is because it is kid number four, but I have all the confidence in him. What a guy! We had a fun family gathering at Cash's house. Fun because ALL of the Boc's were there. They haven't all been together for years- like since before Grayson's mission. They all gathered for Matt and Abby's 30th anniversary! Sooo sweet. Look at this bunch! I love this average summer day in the Geertsen household. I am working in my bathroom. I will share my game plan directly... Jonny... P-Day phone calls with Adren are the best. He just gets whomever is around, sometimes it's just the Parentals. I took this screenshot of Cade, Ashley and Jon all on Mount Timp! Many in the family joined that day. This is the second summit on that mountain in a month for Jonny! Just a pretty screenshot from the doorbell cam.   Paisley has been asked to Prom b...

May Celebrations and Love!

Our little Paisley and all of her little friends are graduating from High School and all of us mothers cannot believe it! My dear friend and current Young Women's President, Elin, set up a beautiful evening for the girls and mothers to celebrate each one of them. It was lovely and touching and very special. These girls are the best! Despite the scaffolding that has been a staple for way too many weeks I care to count, I always appreciate our coming-to-life spring yard. Everything is filling in nicely. It is amazing how big our trees and bushes have become in hardly no time! But that scaffolding! You can't really tell, but it is quite the maze to get in the front door. The porch area may need to be removed just so that people can enter safely on the Homecoming Day.  My friend Kelly reminded our CRU when we replaced our faces onto her family portrait when she arrived home from living abroad for a time. We so funny! More windows being installed. Hooray! I snapped these as I headed...

Happy Anniversary to Jon & Lindsey!

Happy 25 Years to us! We spent the weekend at Snowbird at the lovely resort. It was all so pretty! Our room had such gorgeous views of the mountainside. I texted this pic to Adren of Pfeifferhorn, a mountain he summited with his dad once. I looked at that, marveling that my boy has been there! We took the tram up to the top of the mountain to enjoy panoramic views all around. One of the days it was nice to say, "The only thing on our schedule is a tram ride and dinner reservations". After so much hussle, it was nice to not have a whole lot to do. Chillin' with Jonny was really nice and good for us. It was a good reminder that we really enjoy each other. I mean, we knew that, but it is nice to spend a weekend together when you don't have a million other things going on. When we got back, I dived right back into our big event at work, our annual Give Hope Gala. This one was fun because Jon got to attend with me. It was a fun evening with him and my work friends. Off we ...
