Valentine, I think I love you...

I think school is what makes Valentine's Day so much fun. The days leading up to Friday were spent addressing and signing Valentine's and making boxes to fit all the anticipated goodies.
Zeke's party came first. He looked sooooo cute walking into preschool with this thing.

Eli worked on his box for a few nights in a row. He wasn't happy with each attempt. He really wanted a pinata-looking box. I even ran into a Mexican store once while out on errands to check them out. I've never seen such ugly pinata's in my life and could not fork out the $14 knowing Eli would not be impressed or able to work with them, either. The night before Valentine's Day he looked a little teary-eyed crawling into bed. I asked him what he'd do. He said he'd probably just bring a plastic store bag to hold his Valentine's, because his box did not work out. A plastic bag??? No, way! This cannot do! I felt for him, especially because he'd really tried. I looked at his sad little box, all mangled and covered in blue tape, and just had to help him out. While he slept I wrapped, taped, reinforced and cut away, doing my best at the vision he'd started with. I figured if he still didn't want to bring it, fine. At least he had an option away from a plastic bag!

He loved it! I wanted him to feel how much I loved him by doing it for him. I could see his relief and he gave me the tightest hug. I really don't mind rescuing in these situations. Don't mind at all.
That morning we woke to a real fancy sugar-filled table!

It just happened to be Snowflake's birthday as well. (Paisley's doll) She kept calling this day Thanksgiving. Could not get it right. All day.
Zeke made his way down on his own time and enjoyed a quiet breakfast.
I heart you, too.

It was fun to pick up the kids and hear all about the Valentine's parties, a Read-A-Thon, and more candy galore!
This is what the kids walked into after school:
I'd been chatting with the sista's that morning about how I was just doing store-bought cupcakes this year. It was early out and with work, I just didn't want to be stressed about the sugar cookie baking this year. The more we chatted the more convinced I was that I was doing it wrong! No sugar cookies??? It's tradition!!! What am I doing??? I panicked. By then there was no time to pull out the rolling pin. So, I ran to Sodalicious. Oh, no, she di'nt!
Oh, yesssss, I did!
Soon enough we were putting together Valentine's for neighbors to knock and run. The kids are in to this more than ever. It's super fun for me and Jon to watch from our window the scampering, ducking and crawling. They'd run in all red-cheeked and out of breath, "I made it! They didn't catch me!"
We had a yummy "Heart Breaker" pizza dinner with Martinelli's, and the perfect movie to distract while the Valentine Phantom visited our home through out the evening, leaving little surprises. Jon surprised me by converting our wedding VHS tape into DVD! It was a super sweet surprise to me and I loved sitting all together reminiscing on that day. The kids could not believe how little their older cousins were once upon a time! I'll always treasure these years, snuggling with my babes with Valentine's love in the air.

The Exciting and Miscellaneous

Zeke got his learners!!! This was easy-peasy, first try. He is an excellent driver, though he says he does not feel super confident. Maybe it is because it is kid number four, but I have all the confidence in him. What a guy! We had a fun family gathering at Cash's house. Fun because ALL of the Boc's were there. They haven't all been together for years- like since before Grayson's mission. They all gathered for Matt and Abby's 30th anniversary! Sooo sweet. Look at this bunch! I love this average summer day in the Geertsen household. I am working in my bathroom. I will share my game plan directly... Jonny... P-Day phone calls with Adren are the best. He just gets whomever is around, sometimes it's just the Parentals. I took this screenshot of Cade, Ashley and Jon all on Mount Timp! Many in the family joined that day. This is the second summit on that mountain in a month for Jonny! Just a pretty screenshot from the doorbell cam.   Paisley has been asked to Prom b...

May Celebrations and Love!

Our little Paisley and all of her little friends are graduating from High School and all of us mothers cannot believe it! My dear friend and current Young Women's President, Elin, set up a beautiful evening for the girls and mothers to celebrate each one of them. It was lovely and touching and very special. These girls are the best! Despite the scaffolding that has been a staple for way too many weeks I care to count, I always appreciate our coming-to-life spring yard. Everything is filling in nicely. It is amazing how big our trees and bushes have become in hardly no time! But that scaffolding! You can't really tell, but it is quite the maze to get in the front door. The porch area may need to be removed just so that people can enter safely on the Homecoming Day.  My friend Kelly reminded our CRU when we replaced our faces onto her family portrait when she arrived home from living abroad for a time. We so funny! More windows being installed. Hooray! I snapped these as I headed...

Happy Anniversary to Jon & Lindsey!

Happy 25 Years to us! We spent the weekend at Snowbird at the lovely resort. It was all so pretty! Our room had such gorgeous views of the mountainside. I texted this pic to Adren of Pfeifferhorn, a mountain he summited with his dad once. I looked at that, marveling that my boy has been there! We took the tram up to the top of the mountain to enjoy panoramic views all around. One of the days it was nice to say, "The only thing on our schedule is a tram ride and dinner reservations". After so much hussle, it was nice to not have a whole lot to do. Chillin' with Jonny was really nice and good for us. It was a good reminder that we really enjoy each other. I mean, we knew that, but it is nice to spend a weekend together when you don't have a million other things going on. When we got back, I dived right back into our big event at work, our annual Give Hope Gala. This one was fun because Jon got to attend with me. It was a fun evening with him and my work friends. Off we ...
