Adren's Mission Call

It has been a little strange having Adren take total charge of his mission~ which has been great! He has set up all of his appointments with the Bishop and Stake President etc. Once his portal was opened, he began gathering information and filling out all of the information on his own. I never saw any of it. A bit nerve-wracking! But, I trust he is a big boy now and is covering all of his bases. He took his time and just let me know when he needed  Doctor or Dentist appointment or other information he wasn't sure about. It made it not seem real when he told me he had submitted his papers. Are you sure???

I ran into a friend who's son is Adren's friend and has been serving for about four months. When I told her Adren's papers were submitted, she figured we were days away from getting the call! Gulp. I felt so anxious all of the time. I felt teary and my stomach was in knots, not at all how I expected to feel!

Finally the day arrived, February 14th, Valentines Day. Adren said his call had come! It was a Tuesday, and he was scheduled to work that night. So he planned to open it the next night. Ahhhhh!!!

I wasn't sure what to do with myself. I made dinner- some soup. Then I more than doubled it, figuring people would come over. Then I saw Adren posted to everyone to come on over to watch him open his call. I had Jon pick up donuts on his way home. Gulp.

I had ordered a big world map and a bulletin board so that we could make some guesses. Then I wondered if that was a bad idea. Adren kept saying he was sure he was going to Idaho. "Next year at this time I'll be in Idaho..." We talked about even opening his call privately, then with everyone, no one being the wiser. But he decided he wanted it all to be a first for him. It ended up being fun for friends to guess and stick a pin on the map while everyone gathered.

Quite a crowd of family and friends arrived. Soon enough we had a full house, such a sense of love and support for Adren. It was so sweet. I had the kids manage filming a live for those out of town. Adren opened his call and began reading.

New York, Syracuse Mission!
He enters home MTC on Monday, May 29th. He starts at the Provo MTC on Wednesday, June 7th.

A neat thing is that Grandma Taylor served in the Rochester, NY mission which has now been combined to be Adren's same mission. His mission President seems so great. I was amazed at how relieved I felt and all the anxiety left me. I think I just wasn't doing well with all of the unknowns. Now that we have a date and a location, I feel so excited for him! Adren says he feels super excited and just can't believe it. Now we start all of the prep work as we inch closer and closer to May 29th! It was sweet to have the Bishop call him up that Sunday to announce where he had been called. He said, "If you want to say goodbye, you have until May!"

The Exciting and Miscellaneous

Zeke got his learners!!! This was easy-peasy, first try. He is an excellent driver, though he says he does not feel super confident. Maybe it is because it is kid number four, but I have all the confidence in him. What a guy! We had a fun family gathering at Cash's house. Fun because ALL of the Boc's were there. They haven't all been together for years- like since before Grayson's mission. They all gathered for Matt and Abby's 30th anniversary! Sooo sweet. Look at this bunch! I love this average summer day in the Geertsen household. I am working in my bathroom. I will share my game plan directly... Jonny... P-Day phone calls with Adren are the best. He just gets whomever is around, sometimes it's just the Parentals. I took this screenshot of Cade, Ashley and Jon all on Mount Timp! Many in the family joined that day. This is the second summit on that mountain in a month for Jonny! Just a pretty screenshot from the doorbell cam.   Paisley has been asked to Prom b...

May Celebrations and Love!

Our little Paisley and all of her little friends are graduating from High School and all of us mothers cannot believe it! My dear friend and current Young Women's President, Elin, set up a beautiful evening for the girls and mothers to celebrate each one of them. It was lovely and touching and very special. These girls are the best! Despite the scaffolding that has been a staple for way too many weeks I care to count, I always appreciate our coming-to-life spring yard. Everything is filling in nicely. It is amazing how big our trees and bushes have become in hardly no time! But that scaffolding! You can't really tell, but it is quite the maze to get in the front door. The porch area may need to be removed just so that people can enter safely on the Homecoming Day.  My friend Kelly reminded our CRU when we replaced our faces onto her family portrait when she arrived home from living abroad for a time. We so funny! More windows being installed. Hooray! I snapped these as I headed...

Happy Anniversary to Jon & Lindsey!

Happy 25 Years to us! We spent the weekend at Snowbird at the lovely resort. It was all so pretty! Our room had such gorgeous views of the mountainside. I texted this pic to Adren of Pfeifferhorn, a mountain he summited with his dad once. I looked at that, marveling that my boy has been there! We took the tram up to the top of the mountain to enjoy panoramic views all around. One of the days it was nice to say, "The only thing on our schedule is a tram ride and dinner reservations". After so much hussle, it was nice to not have a whole lot to do. Chillin' with Jonny was really nice and good for us. It was a good reminder that we really enjoy each other. I mean, we knew that, but it is nice to spend a weekend together when you don't have a million other things going on. When we got back, I dived right back into our big event at work, our annual Give Hope Gala. This one was fun because Jon got to attend with me. It was a fun evening with him and my work friends. Off we ...
