Late September the oven broke. I had turned it on to pre-heat while getting dinner ready and panicked when I opened the door to cold. Nooooooooo. Broil and the stove top still worked, so I was relieved to still have that. You can still carry on with life and make do with that much! The results of our google research showed the part was several hundred- not to mention the service costs. At this time I was counting my pennies getting ready for Christmas and Adrens birthday the next week, so fixing it was put off. And put off. And put off. Here we are, the end of February and it is finally fixed! Thanks to an always generous Paul and Sharon. Thank you!!! Oh, how I have missed and took for granted a working oven! Many times while meal planning, I'd realize I would need to scratch several days ideas because it would involve baking. And Friday night pizza night? - well, I resorted to some creative ideas- the broiler still worked, afterall. But the kids never loved it. And I burned- no- scorched more meals than I'd like to recall. The kids would longingly remember fresh baked cookies. Even I found myself a couple of times in the beginning getting things together in a mixing bowl- just to remember that cold oven. Waaaaa-waaaaaa. Somehow we managed to get through four birthdays, the annual Halloween party, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentines Day/Heart Sugar Cookie Day~ not to mention several neighbor meal duties~ all without an oven! I wouldn't recommend it, but it can be done. So, today feels like my Christmas. I have cookies baking as I type to surprise the kids when they get home from school. I have cookies baking right now in the oven!
I am so grateful for wonderful in-laws who think to give a thoughtful gift to their son, even though they know it really benefits their daughter-in-law more. And I feel a little sheepish, since the bill was hardly anything like we thought it would be. The lesson learned is google just doesn't know it all.
