Paisley got in the picture taking spirit right quick and captured a few gems.
Flags in the flower pots on the front porch.
Star from Granny.
We met up with the local family at the Provo Parade. I don't think I have attended this since I was a kid myself. My kids weren't even sure what a parade was. It was hot & crowded, but the excitement between cousins worth it!
This is the first Fourth of July without Granny. And it was different! We decided we need to start up our own traditions. We didn't want to just wait around all day for the fireworks.
There was plenty of cheer and excitement at the parade!
Our little spot was perfect, in the shade and front row views! Afterwards we came back to our house for some lunch and cold popsicles and tons of cousin play and swimming.
That evening we met up at Mike and Mandy's with the Porter's and Grandma and Grandpa for a yummy BBQ, Birthday cake for Grandma Sharon and fireworks galore! All the boys had visited a nearby firework stand selling BOGO and there was some serious one-upping going on in our culdesac and the street over with the aerials. Those are amazing exploding right over your head! It was such a lovely evening, sitting around laughing and chatting, watching the boys light fireworks while the kids rode around and around on bikes holding sparklers. It's what the holiday is all about!
I couldn't help feel a little - sad?- on the way home, watching the Stadium of Fire finishing up the grand finale from I-15. How strange to not be sitting on Granny's front lawn passing around cracker jacks and licorice. The first time in many, many years that front lawn is not full of bodies, cars crammed along the driveway, the front door constantly opened and shut. So strange how life changes and moves on. I think it was felt throughout the entire family. We miss you, Granny and Grandpa!!!
