It feels good to check this off the list of Things We Must Do This Summer. To be honest, the thought of Lagoon this year was a dreaded one. Having a newborn really can put a cramp in family outings, Lagoon being a big one. I was worried about the heat for little Zeke, trying to calculate how much formula to bring, along with the water I'd need on-hand, the inevitable blow-outs that result in a change of clothes (I recall a newborn Eli having a major one of these the moment we entered the gates one year) not to mention someone always needing to stand near the stroller while the others went off to the rides. If it wasn't for the frequently asked "when are we going to The Magoon?" I would have thrown in the towel this year. But when Sadie let it be known they had a pile of discount tickets to pass out and would be going, along with the Boci's, Whitmores, Taylor's and Cade, I forget all the above and say, "We're IN!" Then to my utter delight Jon asked Sharon if she could take Zeke for the day! Suddenly Lagoon sounded like it might even be.... FUN!
It sure takes us a bit to get the car packed up and all of us out the door, but we made it to Lagoon around 1, and were able to easily find "Home Base" because Abby had made a big birthday sign for Katrina's 13th and set up a tent with streamers. We did spend most of the day in kiddie land, of course Paisley would not go on anything but was thrilled just hanging out in the stroller with her fan eating snacks and waving at cousins on nearby rides. It was so nice to have a "partner" for everyone, the older cousins really took the younger ones under their wings and were such a big help! Our big group braved the 45 minute line for Rattle Snake Rapids which was totally worth it, and cooled us all off quiet a bit. It didn't seem so hot after that. Adren and I took the Sky Ride together, I really hate that ride and was clenching every muscle in my body with one arm clamped around Adren all while trying to talk calmly pointing things out. We then rode the bumper cars together, the Scrambler and then Jet Star II. It was fun being with him, hearing him laugh so hard, and get so excited when we got off the rides. Holding my hand I said lets go find the others and he said, "I like to be with you, mom!" Ahhhhh.... sooo sweet. And I have Eli's face locked in my memory bank as he shot up on the Dinosaur ride. His mouth and eyes wide open with happiness. It really is what FUN is!
I'm glad Jon and I got to go on several rides, I feel like I've been to Lagoon so much without going on anything for so long, it was fun to break away and try out the newer ones. Cade, Sophie and I got in line for Wicked and met up with Shafer and Lindsey just getting off, so they stayed with us. Man, that ride is WICKED! One of the funnest I've been on! I know Jon enjoyed more rides as well, as I didn't even see him for a couple of hours. It was great to be able to catch up with my brothers- and what better place! We all said we need to make this a tradition.
I'm so glad my boys got to party it up, be with their cousins and have that fun memory.
I don't know what it is about Lagoon, but never do I see such WACKY people! Where do these people live? Sooo strange- and do they save themselves all year until Lagoon day to finally make out? Or does waiting in line for the Tilt-A-Whirl stir up such crazy passion that if the line is held back, so be it! WACK-Y!!!
We didn't even get out of there until midnight, much later than we planned. But we were so grateful to Paul and Sharon for taking care of little Zeke all day. I'm sure he got lots of munches and was much more comfortable then he would have been with us. It's taken us a day or two to rest up and feel back to normal, my voice was gone the next morning. But I'd do it all again- the crowds, sweat, and packing- I think it was the best Lagoon day yet!
